When shopping for flooring, you will most likely want something that stands up to water. That's especially true if you have a large family with kids and pets.

Luxury vinyl comes with countless benefits. Whether you select luxury vinyl plank or tile, you'll be guaranteed a product impenetrable to liquid.

What’s the difference between waterproof & water-resistant?

Waterproof means just that–impervious. Made of waterproof materials, the product can be spilled on or submerged without damage.

Water-resistant will repel for a short time. Unless wiped immediately, however, it will break the barrier, soak and stain.

If you want the highest level of moisture protection

Go with engineered luxury vinyl. Called "waterproof (vinyl) flooring," it has the same style as the original luxury version, with knots, grains, color and veining variations, etc.

The difference is that the vinyl plank or luxury vinyl tile is thicker and more durable. It's also constructed with WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite), two cores that won't peel or ripple.

Many, no matter where they live, choose this version. They like the peace of mind knowing they can go away for weeks or months and not worry about water-damaged floors.

Other benefits

1. Wear layers are present in all forms. Wear layers are strong, clear coatings between the printed design sheet and a top protective coating.

They protect the luxury vinyl (all forms) from scratches, scuffs, and dents.

2. Low maintenance. All vinyl plank, LVP, or the square, tile-sized pieces, LVT, need regular sweeping (daily, if possible) and periodic mopping.

Best to use a damp, not wet, mop with a microfiber head. Avoid waxy, shine–promoting cleaners as they damage the finish and dull the floors.

3. The installation is uncomplicated and can be a glue-down or floating floor. First, the pieces click and mat. They then hover over the subfloor, which needs to be clean, dry, and level.
